== Karate career ==
Rustin has dedicated his life to teaching and promoting Kyokushin karate within the Mitchells Plain community of Cape Town, a historically underserved area of South Africa. His dojo, based at Stephen Reagan Hall on Park Avenue in Westridge, has produced numerous dedicated practitioners over the years and is regarded as a positive force in the local community.

== 5th dan grading ==
In 2023, Rustin traveled to Mauritius to sit for his 5th dan black belt grading. The examination was conducted by [[Phillip Moustache]], IKAK's Africa Continental Director. The grading lasted four and a half hours and included 42 full-contact fights. Rustin passed with distinction, earning recognition across the KyokushinRyu community in Africa.
